MOOLOOLABA TRIATHLON 2006

A whole crew of Team Dalby made their way to Mooloolaba for the annual Triathlon. We had 16 members racing, many for the first time. The individuals were Danny, Nolesy, Luke Tony L-J and Don. The Budgie Smugglers Jason Marini, Gary Gormley & Mark Green, Team BBJ Brigid Tait, Brady & Lono, Dalby Darlings Andrea and Bron and Haydn, Rachele and Tab L-J.

Danny, in is first full triathlon had an awesome race being the first boy home in a time of 2:37:27.
Nolesy in his first Olympic distance race aslo cruised in with and excellent time of 2:40:29.
TLJ came in well despite his recent bad health in a time of 2:43:53.
Luke had a kick arse bike leg to finish in a time of 2:46:55.
Don finished really well in his age group placing 26th, he gave us a scare post race but is all good. He finished in a time of 2:59:44.
Our teams were awesome - The Dalby Darlings' Andrea and Bron finished 4th in the womens division - an unreal effort for a 2 member team - well done girls!!!!
Team BBJ had a great start with Brigid setting a blistering pace in the swim, following by Brady and Lono flew home in the run with a sub 40 minute run. These guys finished 6th in the hotly contested mixed teams division.
Our other mixed team Haydn, Rach & Tab finished 90th out of 184 mixed teams. This was Rach and Tab's first 'BIG' tri and both recorded PB's.
The world renound men's triathlon team The Budgie Smugglers were on fire, Jason's swim leg was fast and furious as was Gary on the bike. Greenie also had a "SOLID" run placing them 12th in the men's division.
Ex Dalby Girl Chris Galinovic showed the boys how to do it with a great time of 2:28 placing her 5th in the 35-39 female age group.

A very special mention must go to the support crew, with out them we would not get over the line.

Mt Tiresome

The 19th of March saw the running of the Nathan O'Neill Classic.
Six Team Dalby cyclists entered - ELITE C
John Cook
Sam Beck
Brady Cumming
- Masters C
Damian Cumming
Andrea Gormely
Tony (chipo) Nolan
With gale force winds and rough roads Team Dalby found it hard going.
Also being the first race of the SEQ Tour, riders came out to win which made the pace hard and fast.John Cook was the best performer of the day with a 4th place followed by Brady with 6th.Sam also rode well being his second road race ever and will be a force with more training and racing.Damian was the best finisher in the Masters C coming home with the peloton.Andrea and Chipo also finished well and found the hard and fast. All riders had good support from other Team Dalby members with a small crew coming to cheer them on which they appreciate.
PLEASE FIND REPORT TAKEN FROM THE SEQ TOUR WEB SITE

The Toowoomba Cycling Club's Race Promoter, Peter York has started the 2006 open road racing off on a high note with an extremely successful Nathan O'Neill Classic. The inaugrual event held in the tranquil surrounds of Mt Tyson, approximately 40 kms west of Toowoomba, ran with precision and was a hit with riders and spectators alike.

The pleasant Mt Tyson scenery and local folk where in stark contrast to the tough 25km cicruit that met the riders. Whilst many riders sighed a breath of relief that the course was not quite the Pyrennian nightmare that the race profile deplicted, there was sufficient uphill to cause riders to spend a fair amount of time in the red zone. The categories raced between 2and 5 laps of the circuit, with each lap containing three notable hills. This, combined with a strong blustery wind, caused high rates of attritian in all races.

Elite Mens C

The Elite Mens C race covered 3 laps of the Mt Tyson circuit. Despite the fast pace the peloton was still together at the beginning of the third lap. However, David Wadsworth (HPRW), John Cook and Brady Cumming (Team Bikeline) and Clinton Amble (Team Vino's) were not waiting around for a bunch sprint. Together with others including Adam Gill and Ken Wearing (Balmoral) and a break was formed which was to decide the day. In the end David Wadsworth and Adam Gill gave their break companions the slip and took first and second respectively. Clinton Amble won the bunch sprint for third in a powerful display of speed.

Masters C

The Masters C race is one of the most exciting competitions in the SEQ Tour with no less than 7 teams competing in the Teams Competition. However, there was only one team in the race today and that was the "Redback" boys from Wynnum Redland CC who placed 7 riders in the top 10. The massive teams result will put an enormous pressure on the other teams to make up the difference over the coming races. Well done the WRCC Redbacks!
